Epicycles Cat Boxy T-Shirt

A cat, drawn by ninety circles turning at once.

Any closed shape can be traced by a chain of circles, each spinning at its own speed on the rim of the last — astronomers called them epicycles long before anyone drew a cat with them. Here a sitting cat is broken into ninety of them. The print stops the machine four-fifths of the way round: the chain of circles still in place, the pen still on the line, the last stretch of the cat only dotted in.

The design

One thick forest-green line for the cat, fine charcoal and sage circles for the machinery, and rust arms joining them to the pen. Nekomori wordmark and Field Equations / No.03 Epicycles above; 猫森 and z(t) = c₀ + Σ c_ke^{2πi f_k t} below. A small version on the left chest.

The fit

Boxy: wide and square through the body, dropped at the shoulder. A dense 400 gsm cotton that stands away from the body instead of clinging.

• Do not bleach

Garment measured flat. Chest is the width across the body, armpit to armpit.
