Quiet Forms

One series, kept deliberately quiet: black, white, and the smallest amount of colour that will still do the job.

Quiet Forms began with a field note rather than a graphic — the idea that a cat could be recorded the way a surveyor records a hill, in contour and interval instead of outline and fill. Each piece in the series is a different attempt at that. The letterman jacket carries the whole vocabulary at once: a watercolor cat asleep in a teacup at the chest, patch-style field graphics down the sleeves, and an abstract forest study across the back beneath the characters 猫森. The hoodie, the crewneck and the tee each take one part of it and give it room.

The pieces

Four garments, four weights — a heavyweight varsity jacket, a midweight fleece hoodie, an 8.5 oz crewneck sweatshirt and a 100% cotton tee — drawn so they hold together as a set without any two of them repeating each other. The Nekomori mark sits at the left chest throughout: the cat curled into a circle, tail ending in a sprout.

Field notes

The series is numbered rather than seasonal. Field Note 01 is the letterman jacket; the line-art pieces are the studies around it. Nothing here is retired to make room for the next thing, and each product page records how its drawing came about.
