Phyllotaxis Paw Print Hoodie

Five toe beans, one spiral.

Sunflowers pack their seeds by turning 137.5° between each one — the golden angle — and the spirals you see in the head of the flower fall out of that single rule. We ran the same rule outward from the centre of a paw and only let the dots grow where a pad would be. Everything else stays small. The beans are not drawn; they are the places the spiral was allowed to bloom.

The design

Forest-green dots filling the main pad and four toes, every 21st and 34th dot in rust — two Fibonacci numbers — so the hidden spiral arms show through. A faint field of small sage dots completes the circle. Printed large across the front, with nothing on the back; part of Field Equations, No.04.

The fit

Oversized, with a dropped shoulder and a roomy body. Take your usual size for the intended slouch, or size down for a closer fit. Heavy fleece, soft on the inside.

• Pattern: Cat paw print made from a golden-angle (phyllotaxis) spiral of dots, printed large on the front.

• Machine wash at 30°C / 86°F, gentle cycle, inside out
