Epicycles Cat Crewneck Sweatshirt

A cat, drawn by ninety circles turning at once.

Any closed shape can be traced by a chain of circles, each spinning at its own speed on the rim of the last — astronomers called them epicycles long before anyone drew a cat with them. Here a sitting cat is broken into ninety of them. The print stops the machine four-fifths of the way round: the chain of circles still in place, the pen still on the line, the last stretch of the cat only dotted in.

The design

One thick forest-green line for the cat, fine cream and sage circles for the machinery, and rust arms joining them to the pen, across the back. Above it the Nekomori wordmark and Field Equations / No.03 Epicycles; below, 猫森 and the equation itself: z(t) = c₀ + Σ c_ke^{2πi f_k t}. A small version of the drawing sits on the left chest.

The fit

Loose and relaxed, with a round neck and ribbed cuffs and hem. Take your usual size for a relaxed fit, or size down for a closer one. Thick fleece, soft on the inside.

• Pattern: Single-line sitting cat traced by Fourier epicycles, printed large on the back; small matching print on the left chest.

• Machine wash at 30°C / 86°F, gentle cycle, inside out
• Do not bleach
• Tumble dry low
